In early 1965 George Pearson, then acting president of the Exchange Club of St Petersburg, had been trying to figure out some way to honor the police for doing such great work in our community. While driving by the St Petersburg Police Department he had an epiphany ’we should recognize one outstanding officer a year’ and thus the Police Officer of the Year Award was born. Along with Exchange Club of St Petersburg Mr. Pearson’s grandson Albert Jasuwan continues to carry the torch today in Sponsoring and chairing The Police officer of the Year. In November of 1990, after living in the city of St Petersburg during her 41 years of marriage Odette Patterson created the Charles A. Patterson & Odette W. Patterson Charitable Trust, allocating money to our police officers, that rendered exemplary and meritorious service to the City. ‘The Pearson Patterson Police Officer of the Year Award’ has been an annual event ever since
