MEET: in the gallery at MASS | Hudson Valley Design Lab at 12:00pm BRING: waterproof shoes and/or hiking boots, and sunscreen. Protective equipment, trash bags & grabbers provided to participants, courtesy of Vassar Environmental Cooperative, Cary Institute of Ecosystem Studies, and City of Poughkeepsie Department of Public Works. The image above shows HVDL cleaning up the Fall Kill in 2017.More InformationOur latest exhibit, Fringe City Futures, reports on our research into small American cities that have been negatively affected by mid-century urban renewal. There's a special focus on cities with post-industrial creeks like the Fall Kill, which was once an integral part of Poughkeepsie's industrial and manufacturing spheres, but now lies dormant, neglected, and underutilized. If treated with the care and respect all waterways deserve, the Fall Kill can be turned into a community asset for the City of Poughkeepsie. We are starting with this cleanup! The day will start in the gallery at Hudson Valley Design Lab where we will view and discuss the Fringe City Futures exhibit and the Fall Kill. Then, we'll gather our equipment and walk to Malcom X Park, where the clean up begins. We will walk along and within the Fall Kill, removing trash as we go, heading toward Brookside Avenue. After we finish the clean up, MASS will provide pizza & refreshments to all participants.
