Comprised of pianist Chia-Lin Yang, violinist Elbert Tsai, and cellist Brady Anderson, the trio has engaged audiences throughout the San Francisco Bay Area with innovative programs featuring familiar masterpieces as well as lesser-known works highlighting the influence of tango and jazz. Outside of their performing careers, the members of the Verve trio have also built notable teaching studios, with their students regularly winning competitions and attending renowned festivals throughout the country. Chia-Lin Yang, piano Hailed by critics as possessing “the requisite touch of poetry that eludes so many pianists,” Dr. Chia-Lin Yang has toured throughout the United States, Canada, and her native Taiwan as a concert pianist and chamber musician. Top prizes at the Seattle International Piano Competition and Kingsville Isabel Scionti Solo Piano Competition helped launch a performance career which has included concerts at Benaroya Hall and the Banff Centre’s Rolston Recital Hall as well as a national broadcast on WQXR in Minnesota. Additional competition awards include the National Arts and Letters Competition, WAMSO Young Artist Competition, Camerata Concerto Competition, and Wideman Piano Concerto Competition. She is a recipient of the Helen von Ammon Fund for Emerging Artists. Dr. Chia-Lin Yang holds both her Doctor’s and Master’s degrees in piano performance from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music under the tutelage of André Watts and Evelyne Brancart. Chia-Lin was on faculty at Indiana University and West Valley College in Saratoga where she established the acclaimed WVC Young Artist Concert Series. Being enthusiastic about chamber music, Chia-Lin dedicates her time to collaboration with renowned fellow musicians. She is the founder of the Aristo Trio, the Aristo Duo, the Yang-Shin-Bate Trio, and a participant at the Sarasota Chamber Music Festival in Florida. She currently serves as Lecturer in Piano at UC Santa Cruz and a piano instructor at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music Pre-College Division. Brady Anderson, cello Brady Anderson has received top prizes in numerous competitions, including American String Teachers Association and Music Teachers National Association performance competitions. Having performed chamber music extensively, Brady has had the opportunity to collaborate with both faculty and colleagues across the country and world. Brady is the artistic director for both the Benicia Chamber Players and Pleasanton Chamber Players. He is also the cellist and a founding member of the Alden Trio and was the interim cellist of the Thalea String Quartet. Brady studied chamber music under the guidance of Menahem Pressler, Jorja Fleezanis, Anne Epperson, Atar Arad, and members of the Pacifica String Quartet, Miró Quartet, and the Juilliard String Quartet. Brady studied cello at University of California at Berkeley where he studied with Jonathan Koh and Irene Sharp, and the Indiana University Bloomington Jacobs School of Music where he studied with Peter Stumpf on the Janos Starker scholarship. A dedicated cello teacher, Brady maintains a private cello studio of 40 students in Pleasanton, CA. Brady plays on a cello by W. H. Hammig, Leipzig from 1890. Elbert Tsai, violin Virtuoso violinist Elbert Tsai leads a multifaceted career as a soloist, chamber musician, and sought-after pedagogue. He currently serves on the violin faculty of the San Francisco Conservatory Pre-College as well as Center Stage Strings at the University of Michigan School of Music. Guest faculty appointments include the Oberlin Conservatory and SFCM Collegiate Division, and he previously taught at the Luzerne Music Center and Crowden School. His students have soloed with orchestras throughout the Bay Area and participated in international programs such as the Morningside Music Bridge and Menuhin Competition (Junior Division). He maintains an active performing schedule, his recitals having been featured recently at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, Pomona College, Le Petit Trianon Theatre, and Colburn School for the Performing Arts. Early in his professional career, Elbert won positions with the San Francisco Ballet and San Francisco Symphony orchestras, touring with the symphony throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia. He holds degrees from the University of Southern California, Rice University, and Oberlin College.
