Experience a fun week creating something beautiful as well as useful. Participants will learn to thread and use a sewing machine to make ¼” seams, choose their own fabric, follow a pattern, use a rotary blade and measuring tools, iron and press and assemble the fabric block in order to finish a quilt top.
Learn the joy of making a lap quilt for yourself or a friend. Skills learned are foundational and can be used to create future items or repair/alter items. The pop-out block pattern is realistic and manageable project to finish within the week. Other skills include patience, consistency, and making mistakes in a safe environment (all participants will be introduced to a tool called a seam ripper!) Our screened volunteers are terrific troubleshooters and do a great job encouraging new sewers. During the week, history and heritage of quilts will be shared. On Friday the 14, pizza will be provided for campers.
Binding will be added on July 26 at the Extension office after the quilt tops have been sent to the quilting studios to be quilted. Past participants have entered their finished quilts in the Fair and won prizes!
July 26th is the additional day needed to finish quilts. NO FLIP FLOPS, closed-toe shoes only!Bring your own lunch. Field trips included.
