Conley will be reading from his book and sharing his personal story of growing up in a conservative religious family and undergoing conversion therapy to "cure" his homosexuality. Through his powerful and moving writing, Conley sheds light on the damaging effects of conversion therapy and the importance of acceptance and love. Don't miss this opportunity to hear from a powerful voice in the LGBTQ+ community. During the Q&A session at 4:00 PM, Garrard Conley will engage with the audience by answering questions and providing an opportunity to delve deeper into the themes explored in his critically acclaimed memoir, Boy Erased. This is exclusive to members of the Emerson community. Following the Q&A, the event opens up to the public for a reading by Conley at 6:00 PM. His personal story of undergoing conversion therapy and the importance of acceptance and love has resonated with readers worldwide, and his writing has been praised for its powerful and moving portrayal of this difficult journey. Garrard Conley is the New York Times bestselling author of the memoir Boy Erased as well as the creator and co-producer of the podcast UnErased: The History of Conversion Therapy in America. His other work has been published in The New York Times, The Independent, Oxford American, TIME, and Virginia Quarterly Review, among others. He is an Assistant Professor of Creative Writing at Kennesaw State University. His forthcoming novel, All the World Beside, will be out from Riverhead/Penguin Spring 2024.
