Description
Have you been wanting a rain barrel for your home? Now is your chance! Join us at Beanlandia to learn how to prep and prime a rain barrel, then paint it to make a a beautiful piece of art for your yard. Rain barrels capture and store rainwater that travels through your home’s downspout when it rains. Rainwater that you have collected can be used for watering plants and can provide a fresh water source for gardens and landscaping, without costing you a fortune. This workshop is for all ages and can be done as a family. We will be sanding and priming the rain barrels on Wednesday, May 17 from 4:30-7:30pm. This prep session is optional. You can come for the whole session or just stop in to learn how to prep your barrel and work on it during the week so you are ready for Saturday's class. If you aren't able to make it to the Wednesday prep session, you can prep and prime your barrel on Saturday during the workshop, you just may not get done with painting the barrel by the end of the class on Saturday. NOTE: This class is for Beanlandia members. If you are not a Beanlandia member but would like to take this workshop, you can sign up for a Beanlandia membership here. Beanlandia memberships are pay-what-you-like per month. Make sure to check the "Make this a monthly reoccurring donation" when signing up to become a Beanlandia member. About the Instructor: Anna has made their home in places that all start with “new.” They were born and raised in New Mexico, crossed the country to attend Bard College in upstate New York to study Photography and Human Rights, and finally migrated to warmer weather in New Orleans to pursue a career in teaching. They thought teaching was going to be the long haul career, but after 13 years of serving as a special education teacher and working in schools through the pandemic, it was time to make a change. Wanting to make the carpentry hobby into something more, they attended a pre-apprentice carpentry program called BuildStrong Academy in Kenner to learn the foundations of carpentry. Currently, they are working as a plaster apprentice of the decorative arts and enjoying the hybrid of creative and trade work. Aside from the professional things, they have an amazingly supportive wife, a cat that they only like sometimes, and a dog that can do no wrong. Even after a physically demanding day, there's always time for nature walks, taking care of plant babies, the never-ending “honey-do” list of home projects, sewing, making art, and any excuse to eat oysters and crawfish until they turn into one.
