Gabriel Selassie I, Assistant Professor of Africana Studies. 🎥 🇪🇹 Keynote address: The Aesthetics of Pan-African Cinema by the award-winning filmmaker Haile Gerima, professor emeritus and founding faculty of the graduate film program at Howard University. Professor Gerima is a Pan-African film producer and director with numerous films that provided liberatory images for the African world. His films include Sankofa, Teza (Golden Stallion of Yennenga Award Winner at FESPACO), Ashes and Embers, Bush Mama, Adwa, Through the Door of No Return, Pan African Footprints (co-produced), Harvest 3000, and Cutting Horse, among others. Moderated by Dr. Sheba Lo.🇬🇭 🍫We are excited to have a presentation by 57 Chocolate| Revolutionary Chocolate, An African women-owned luxury chocolate brand that evokes 1957— Ghana's independence, moderated by Dr. Jennifer De Maio, 🇪🇹 🇪🇹 and an exciting presentation by Dr. Peri Klemm entitled Dressing Modern Like our Mothers: Oromo Fashion in Ethiopia, coupled with an African textile display and pop-up fashion show moderated by Dr. Suzanne Scheld. This symposium is presented to you by the Interdisciplinary Study of Africa Minors Program Committee in the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences at California State University Northridge and sponsored by the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences, the CSUN Council for Ethnic Studies, and the Department of Africana Studies.
