This annual conference brings together instructors, students, learning designers, and technology specialists to make connections, begin collaborations, and learn from their peers. TEACHx is presented by Northwestern Information Technology and the Office of the Provost. PricingTEACHx is free to Northwestern attendees. Tickets for attendees from other institutions are $50 per person and cover both days of the conference. KeynoteBeyond Inclusion: Education for Civic Engagement and Participation Equity-minded education considers not only the ways in which we develop subject matter expertise, it considers our current and future role in helping to shape and sustain a socially just world. In this keynote, we explore what such an approach to the classroom can look like, agnostic to the subject matter being covered. Implications for our practice and classroom will also be discussed. By Bryan Dewsbury, PhD, Associate Professor of Biological Sciences at Florida International University Bryan Dewsbury, PhD, will deliver the keynote address at the 2023 conference. Professor Dewsbury is the principal investigator of the Science Education and Society research program, which focuses on the social context of teaching and learning in a variety of educational contexts. He is interested in helping to re-frame the education discussion to address questions of equity and community-building better. His work addresses pressing issues such as student retention in STEM fields (especially in higher ed), the under-representation of minority groups in certain STEM fields, and the role of the instructor and student in promoting student learning gains.
