Join local poets as they celebrate and help culminate National Poetry Month via live musical and poetic performances. Featured poets include the following Manasquan natives and residents: Alvaro Andrade, Meredith ‘MZA” Avakian, Jennifer Burger and Kira DeSomma and Blush Ellis. Poets will share all original works, including some of their published poetry. This is a free event for the community and seating will be offered on a first-come, first-serve basis. ABOUT THE POETS... Meredith Z. Avakian is a writer, spoken word poet, keynote speaker, storyteller, conscious communications coach and consultant, as well as the author of Propaganda Begins with PR: Poetry for the Soul and PRhyme Time: Power of Poetry. Some of her writing has been published by The Philadelphia Inquirer, The Philadelphia Lawyer and philly.com. Also, Meredith’s poetry has been published in The Armenian Mirror-Spectator, The Armenian Poetry Project, The Literary Groong, and in several of Moonstone Arts’ Poetry Ink chapbooks. Meredith’s writing largely focuses on self-reflection, transformation, history, justice, community and humanity. Blush Ellis is a new jersey poet and writer. claims to be a jokester as well. she lives in the ocean— I mean, she lives by the ocean. she makes coffee, art, and works with people and local community-first organizations to help facilitate poetry and the creative arts for all. she has proudly worked with project write now, soup can magazine, and conscious creatives, among others. you can find her being a silly goose throughout Monmouth County, as seen on her instagram, @blushthepoet. Kira DeSomma is a writer, artist, teacher, BookTowne social media aficionado, and tea enthusiast. She is a graduate of the Oxford Brookes' Creative Writing Masters program, and has self-published several works of fiction. Her primary focus is on mythology, the natural world, and the mystery of love. She feels passionately about deconstruction shame and purity culture in fiction, and she does this by writing spicy stories about dragons. When she's not writing, she enjoys hikes, DnD, and playing dress up. She keeps an Etsy shop stocked with witchy & poetic paper goods themed around her books.
