Description

Want to wander through the beautiful Texas Hill Country, but unsure how to begin? Interested in hiking through nature but have only trekked sidewalks and H-E-B aisles? Looking for a chupacabra? This event is for YOU! Absolutely ZERO experience required – in fact encouraged! Learn the basics of how to prepare and what to expect, but most importantly you will enjoy a short and easy hike (1.5 miles, flat gravel trail, mostly shaded). Hike guides will identify native plants, search for animals like armadillo and endangered birds, and discuss 10,000+ years of human inhabitation right here in Bexar County. After the hike will be a presentation with a Q&A session should you want to learn even more. Who is Invited: Open to women ages 12 and over; minors must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian. No pets please. Registration, Fees, Day Pass & Cancellation: Registration is required for this hike and limited to the first 15 women that register. Sorry, no group registrations. Registration opens on Saturday at 8:00AM, two weeks prior to the event, and closes at noon, the Thursday before the event. Though the hike is free, entrance fees to the Natural Area apply. To save time at the Fee Booth and ensure entrance on crowded days, please pre-purchase and PRINT OUT a Day Pass. SPECIAL NOTE: Reserving a Day Pass is NOT the same as making a program reservation. When & Where to Meet: Arrive no later than 8:45AM. Meet at the rainwater harvesting tower near the Visitor Center. Plan to arrive early as mornings can be very busy. The Natural Area front gates open at 7:00AM; plan to be ready to go no later than 8:45AM. The hike starts promptly at 9:00AM. What to Wear & Bring: Dress for the weather; wear sturdy, closed-toed shoes (hiking boots or sneakers – please no sandals or flip-flops), bring sun protection and at least 1 liter of water per person. Details: Participants should be able to walk 1.5 miles on flat gravel trails. Cancellation: This program is subject to cancellation. Should there be inclement weather, please check Natural Area conditions by calling GCSNA's main office at 210-688-9055, or go to GCSNA’s website, twitter feed or Facebook page.
