Breathing is essential to life. From bringing oxygen to our cells, tissues, and organs to helping to reduce stress, anxiety, and promote overall health and well-being. How we breathe is really important!
Many of us have developed abnormal breathing patterns through our mouths, predominantly using our chest and neck muscles and as a result, have poor posture, tension headaches, neck pain, back pain, and other dis-ease. Nose breathing and deep diaphragmatic breathing, on the other hand, help alleviate all of these issues by stimulating the vagus nerve, which tells our body to rest, digest, and relax. Diaphragmatic breathing also provides us stability throughout our trunk and prevents injury to our spine.
Our vagus nerve wanders from our brain to our colon touching all the major organs in between; hence it plays a vital role in controlling their proper functioning. Deep diaphragmatic breathing is one way to enhance vagus nerve stimulation and improve vagal tone, which has also been shown to help manage epilepsy, depression, and possibly other inflammatory processes.
In this workshop, you'll learn how to breathe effectively to help reduce stress and anxiety, improve self-awareness, decrease muscular tension, and improve strength and mobility.
