The Arsenal of Freedom Festival will be a joint-effort, co-hosted event between the Military Vehicle Collectors Club of Michigan (MVCCMI) and the Steam Railroading Institute (SRI.) The theme will be how the U.S. military and American railroads worked together to win WWII and continued into the cold war era. The event will feature static displays of military vehicles of all eras with their owners, reenactors in a living history setting, a Rosie-the-Riveters contingent and the local Boy Scouts of America troop. In addition, there will be active demonstrations such as Load-a-Train and Tow-a-Train and a short convoy through Owosso. After hours, there will be activities for the exhibitors, such as tours through the locomotive repair shop, "Movie Night," guided cab tours of Pere Marquette 1225, a restored, fully functional steam locomotive that was built and delivered in November, 1941. In addition, there will be a bonfire to relax near and socialize. There will be a food plan where specific meals will be provided for a set price. The dates of the event are: Set up Thursday June 22, event dates Friday and Saturday June 23-24, and take down, pack up on Sunday June 25. The public event hours will be 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Fri-Sat. Pre-registration is required for exhibitors with a deadline of May 1, 2023. Reenactor will be asked to volunteer to stand sentry during Load-a-train and Pull-a-Train as well as acting armed guard for the VIP convoy. Vehicle owners and reenactors are welcome to bivouac on site at the SRI yard. The yard is about 1/3 mile long with a mix of gravel areas and a grassy meadow. SRI's address is: 405 S. Washington St., Owosso, MI. There will be limited movement of vehicles during the event, so take this into consideration. Check In is at the 45th tent from 0900-0945. You will recieve your check in package and wrist band. NO BLANKS allowed, we barely got weapons allowed. Blank or gas guns only. Must show that guns are not capable of shooting a projectile (blank adapted). There will be an S&A formation at 0945 Friday and Saturday. You must be able to provide proof of S&A to remain on the property during the event. Please see Matt Hobig of the 45th ID if you arrive after S&A time. Food trucks also on site, Restaurants in town.
