Description

Seattle is not dying, but it’s been through A LOT these past few years and it could use some love. As Seattle and the Pacific Northwest continue to be shaped by changes brought on by a shifting economy before and during the pandemic, a lot of us might be rethinking how we relate to our city and region. We might even be looking to remind ourselves of why we love it here and why we continue to call it home. Wherever you are in your exploration of love for Seattle, we all could use a reminder of why this place is special. A place that, at its finest, deepens our curiosity and excitement for all the diverse people, communities, hidden secrets, and gems that define the Emerald City. Whether you call yourself a Seattleite or a transplant, or anything in between, what would you write in your love letter to Seattle? Join KUOW’s Seattle Now host Patricia Murphy and special guests for our next Casual Friday live event at Town Hall Seattle on Friday, May 19th at 7 p.m. You’ll be part of a live-taping for an episode of the podcast’s beloved Casual Friday series as we dive into what keeps us in love with Seattle and the Puget Sound region we call home. The Seattle Now team wants to hear from you! When did you first fall in love with Seattle? What is your one hot take on Seattle? When you've had a rough day, what is the one Seattle thing that can turn it around? Share your responses here with us for the live show. Host: Patricia Murphy, host of Seattle Now, KUOW Featured Guests: Marcus Harrison Green, publisher and founder of the South Seattle Emerald Jas Keimig, arts writer, @jaskeimig About this podcast: Seattle Now is KUOW's daily news podcast. Each episode features host Patricia Murphy in conversation with a local expert, community leader or academic. Together they explain a story shaping the Seattle region in under 15 minutes — from the housing crisis, to local politics, to the city's thriving arts scene. Every Friday, Casual Friday starts the weekend on a high note. Patricia and guests unwind the news of the week, from the serious to the silly and everything in between. More about the guests: Marcus Harrison Green is the founder of the South Seattle Emerald, and a columnist with the Seattle Times. Growing up in South Seattle, he experienced first-hand the impact of one-dimensional stories on marginalized communities, which taught him the value of authentic narratives. After an unfulfilling stint in the investment world during his twenties, Marcus returned to his community with a newfound purpose of telling stories with nuance, complexity, and multidimensionality with the hope of advancing social change. You can follow him on social media @mhgreen3000. Jas Keimig is a writer and critic based in Seattle. They previously worked on staff at The Stranger, covering visual art, film, music, and stickers. Their work has also appeared in i-D, Netflix, Crosscut, Feast Portland, and The Ticket. They also co-write Unstreamable for Scarecrow Video, a column and screening series highlighting films you can’t find on streaming services. They won a game show once. You can follow them on social media @jaskeimig. Event DetailsDoors open at 6:00 p.m. to The Forum, Town Hall Seattle, 1119 8th Avenue, Seattle WA 98101 Parking information can be found here.
