May is Mental Health Awareness Month and Walks with Buddy, Alexander Jordan Jamieson Foundation, and Milford Prevention Council have joined forces for a weekend of socially-distanced events. COASTLINE CHALLENGE: From Friday, May, 5th from dawn until Sunday, May 7th at 3pm, you are invited to walk the CT coastline on your own, or with a team. While you can walk any coastline, there will be fun signs posted along routes, with QR codes and photo opportunities along the beautiful Milford coastline (the longest in the state). Wherever you walk, track it on an app like Nike Run Club or Map My Run for a chance to win the Challenge! (Working on some fun prizes, stay tuned!) Saturday, May 6th will be the 2nd Poker Walk from 10-2pm starting at Walnut Beach Pavilion down to the Milford Audubon. Beautiful walk, visit 5 local businesses draw a card from the deck, take a photo and best 5 card hand will win prizes presented at the Music Fest on Sunday!! MUSIC FEST FOR MENTAL HEALTH: Join us on Sunday, May7th at Fowler Field, Milford for live music including: The Navels with AJJ Foundation students & Hawkins! Yoga with WalkAboutYoga, a Purple Pantry charity food drive, informational tables, local vendors, and CappuGino's & The Plate food Trucks The Music Fest for Mental Health is free to attend with a suggested donation of $10, which can be made here by clicking “Tickets” à “As an individual”, then entering the donation amount (with or without buying tickets to the Walk). Day-of donations are also accepted. Please also RSVP on Facebook here! The goal is to raise awareness for mental health, and how so many of us have become more anxious, depressed, and/or at risk for other mental health struggles. According to Mental Health America’s 2020 data, almost 1 in 10 youth have severe depression, and suicidal ideation among adults is increasing. We hope this event reminds you to treat yourself and others with kindness, patience and love.
