EVERGREEN PARK, IL — Mayor Jim Sexton and Rep. Kelly Burke (36th District) is seeking residents' input on the lousy mail service from the Evergreen Park branch of the U.S. Postal Service.
"We are very concerned about these problems, and we will be asking our federal representatives to help improve the situation," Burke said on Facebook. The state representative running for mayor after Sexton announced his retirement last month.
Mail delivery, or lack of it, is a hot topic in neighborhood Facebook groups, with some residents complaining that they have gone days without receiving any mail.
Last month, undelivered packages addressed to Evergreen Park residents were found dumped in alleys. Evergreen Park police officers delivered the packages to their recipients. Around the same time, a pile of undelivered packages were found in a Mt. Greenwood woman's trash can on the Evergreen Park-Chicago border.
Residents are asked to share their first-hand problems or concerns related to mail service as, or by the Evergreen Park Post Office at 9359 S Kedzie Ave. in order to gather and disseminate the best information
Please include your name and address and be as specific as possible when describing your concerns, including approximate dates and times.
"Comments such as 'I did not receive mail on six consecutive days in December, which caused my medications and important correspondence to be delayed,' is much more effective than they lost my mail," Burke said.
A short online survey is available on the village's website.
