Description
The AVB Community Band will present "We Believe in Passion" on Monday, April 17, a concert filled with music to stir the heart and memories featuring popular local vocalist Emily Paulsen at the Ashwaubenon Performing Arts Center, 2391 S. Ridge Road, Ashwaubenon. Admission is at no charge, but donations are appreciated in the lobby following the concert. The evening is sponsored by Willems Landscape Service in De Pere. Sponsorships and donations help defray the expenses of the all-volunteer 75-member band, which include rental of the theatre and the expertise of the theatre’s professional staff, as well as music expenses, storage and insurance costs. “Music has the ability to evoke all sorts of responses from people,” said Mike Ajango, director of the AVB Community Band. Paul Oleksy is associate director of the AVB Community Band. “The focus for April is music that stirs our hearts and brings back some fond memories — or tugs at our heartstrings. Along with that, we are bringing back one of our favorite vocalists that has a way of reaching into our hearts, Emily Paulsen.” Paulsen has been an active singer and actor for nearly 20 years. Since 2008, she has been performing with Let Me Be Frank Productions at the historic Meyer Theatre in Green Bay. In addition to her stage work as a singer and actor, Emily teaches private voice lessons and is an acting and audition coach and choreographer. Favorite stage roles include Eva Peron in “Evita” and Fraulein Schneider in “Cabaret.” Paulsen graduated Cum Laude from the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay with a degree in theatre-performance with continuing education including The Boston Conservatory of Music. The AVB Community Band opens its evening of music with the joyous “On Cloud Nine!” by composer Richard Saucedo and will also perform the many familiar tunes in “The Forest Gump Suite.” The film featured actors Tom Hank and Sally Field. The passionate “Danse Bacchanale from Samson and Delilah” will also be performed by the band. Also during the first half of the show, Paulsen will sing “Memory” from the Andrew Lloyd Weber musical “Cats” and “Precious Lord, Take My Hand.” “Choreography” by composer Robert Sheldon opens the second half. The piece draws its inspiration from dance movements found in contemporary stage, ballet and theatrical productions. “Unchained Melody,” made popular by The Righteous Brothers and the film “Ghost,” will be performed by Paulsen and the band. The AVB Community Band will also perform the moving “Firebird Suite Finale” by Russian composer Igor Stravinsky as well as “Pines of Rome,” written in 1924 by Italian composer Ottorino Respighi as a tribute to Rome with themes recalling the Roman Empire. Paulsen will join the band in the concert’s finale, “From Sea to Shining Sea.” The AVB Community Band will close out its 2022-2023 season on Monday, May 15, at 7 p.m. with a concert titled “We Believe in Rock and Roll” at the Ashwaubenon PAC. Doors open at 6 p.m. The May concert is sponsored by Kinnard Heating & Cooling of Green Bay. The May concert will also feature the annual “Spring Cleaning Drive” collection of household cleaning products and personal care items conducted by AmVets Post 11 prior to the concert in the lobby on behalf of local veterans in need. Also, prior to both the April and May concerts, members of the Ashwaubenon High School Show Choir will be selling Seroogy’s candy bars, with proceeds used to help support their program.
