Description

Many people are aware of John J. Audubon’s “Birds of America” illustrations, depicting incredibly vivid and detailed life sized birds from across America. Few people, however, are aware that the Peabody Institute Library is home to one of only 119 known remaining copies of these original first edition “elephant folio” sets, printed between 1827–1838 and entrusted to the Library’s perpetual care in 1871. On Friday, April 28th, the Peabody Institute Library Foundation will host a “Birds & Bubbly” fundraiser event to showcase selected Audubon prints and raise awareness of the Library’s ongoing work to conserve these prints for generations to come. Along with a showcase of Audubon’s work, the event will feature speakers from our conservation studio detailing the history of these prints and the conservatoin process that the Library began over 20 years ago, hors d'oeuvres, desserts, wine, beer, and, of course, a bubbly toast. All proceeds will directly fund the ongoing conservation of these prints. Sponsorship opportunities are available- please contact Cate Merlin, Library Director, at [email protected] or 978-531-0100 x16 for more information.
