We're excited to welcome author Ralls Melotte to the Vachel Lindsay Home to share his new book, Cat's Cafe, the first book in his Eagle Rock Trilogy. Ralls will offer a reading of his work and facilitate a discussion about the writing process, his historical research to make the story authentic, and stories from Springfield and Illinois history that are similar to the events in the novel. A synopsis of the book: Catherine Stubin boarded awest-bound TransContinental Railroad night train to begin a wonderful adventure with her new husband. Far from the love story he had promised, the West was fearsome and filthy — and worth every mile of the journey. The genteel young woman left a home… to find a life. The program is free but reservations are required, as seating is limited. Please note that stairs are required to access the Vachel Lindsay Home. About the Venue The Vachel Lindsay Home State Historic Site is home to the remarkable Lindsay family, including artist, author and poet Nicholas Vachel Lindsay (1879-1931). Today the home is a State Historic Site managed by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, restored to its appearance approximately 1915.
