Psychedelics have become a hot button topic in many fields, from medicine to mental health to optimal performance. Psychedelic-assisted therapy produces unheard of results in the social sciences, such as a single high-dose psilocybin (active compound in magic mushrooms) experience helping long-term smokers to quit up to 1 year later. What are psychedelics, exactly, and how do they work?
Michael Ebbinghaus, one of our clinicians at Ellie Mental Health Bee Cave, will guide us through the world of psychedelia. Weaving in his background in neuroscience as well as firsthand experiences, he will help to explore the mechanism and action of psychedelics and the transformative power they have in the relationship to ourselves.
We chose Wednesday, April 19th in commemoration with Bicycle Day, when chemist Albert Hoffman accidentally splashed some of his new chemical, LSD-25, onto his skin and had the ride of his life. We are working currently to be able to provide ketamine-assisted therapy in the future, and look forward to utilizing innovative healing techniques in our community clinic.
