Description

Are you excited for spring migration? Are you curious about birds, but have never gone birdwatching before? Are you a super bird nerd? Do you want to make new friends who are passionate about the outdoors and social justice? Join us for our third group outing! We'll be birding the Laguna de Santa Rosa trail in Sebastopol- located on Pomo, Miwok, and Wappo land. We'll look for spring migrants, residential waterbirds, and raptors, and check out the plants and wildlife in the most biologically diverse region of Sonoma County. What we'll do: We'll be strolling or sitting around at the location (we might break into smaller groups depending on interest) and observe birds and other wildlife together. More expert birders will be there to share some tips for learning how to ID different species. We'll also have someone keeping an eBird checklist so that we can track what species we saw and share it with the group. Accessibility Info: This is a mixed paved/dirt path that is flat and 1.8 miles in length. There may be mud on the path due to recent rains. There are benches accessible at the trailhead as well as throughout the distance of the trail. Portable toilets are available at the trailhead. What to bring: Layers Sturdy shoes/boots that can take mudWater/coffee/teaFoldable chair if you plan to sit and birdBinoculars (optional - we have extras!)Bird ID apps (we recommend downloading ahead of time: Merlin Bird ID app and/or Sibley Birds 2nd Edition)Note: We are capping the event at 20 people. If you registered and can no longer make it, we ask that you cancel your registration so others can join. Also, this is not a formal guided tour or instructional experience – it's a community gathering to bird together. If you cannot make this one, we hope you'll join us at the next one! We'll announce it via email and our Instagram and Facebook pages. Thank you, and we're so excited to hang! Event photo: Jeffer Giang, @Jeffer.birds
