Description
The point is The Sound. …the sound that a seasoned artist can cull from a hand-picked 7’ Steinway model B under the high cathedral arches of spacious church sanctuary. The sound you’ll hear at his hands from that piano, and in this space just might have to be described in words normally used by a modern sommelier for a particularly sumptuous Chardonnay. We will borrow Ad libitum: “As smooth and rich as fresh churned cream… an almost buttery sound!” But let’s hear how some actual reviewers, musicians, and audience members have responded to this pianist’s playing… “Brilliant” “Amazing unity with the orchestra” -The State Newspaper “I was absolutely blown away” -Excelsior Arts Academy Director “David, you hear things!” -Juilliard Professor Live music is worth getting off the couch for! And there’s nothing else quite like… a live solo piano concert in a good hall played on a world class piano by an award-winning, seasoned artist. THE HALL Christ Covenant Church at 3100 Covenant road, Columbia, SC has very lofty cathedral ceilings with an interior of wood, brick, and carpet, creating an acoustic environment perfectly balanced for a piano recital. THE PIANO A 7 foot Steinway model B, handpicked from the factory in New York City and well-maintained by expert technicians with 24/7 climate control. THE PIANIST Well-seasoned, and very exciting to listen to, David Edwards holds the MM degree in Piano Performance from UofSC School of Music, and has performed as soloist and chamber musician up and down the east coast, out to the Midwest and in Paris France. He and his wife Janice raised their four children here in Columbia, SC. THE MUSIC Lavish portions of shorter Rachmaninov solos will serve as preludes to larger works from the standard repertoire. Featured will be J. S. Bach’s contemplative-energetic Toccata no. 2, the colossal Sonata no. 7 by Prokofiev, the highly delicate and generally fast-moving Sonatine of Ravel, with the beautiful and fascinating 21’st century short Sonata no. 4 by Armenian-American composer Dianne Goolkasian Rahbee Ahh! We can hardly wait. See you there!
