The ECCT Racial Healing, Justice, and Reconciliation Core Team is very excited to announce our pilgrimage to the Black Heritage Trail and the Museum of African American History in Boston. Our ItineraryWe will travel by bus to Beacon Hill, a neighborhood in Boston, where we’ll meet our distinguished tour guides L’Merchie Frazier and Byron Rushing. L’Merchie Frazier, formerly the Director of Education and Interpretation for the Museum of African American History, Boston/Nantucket, is a member of the Task Force on Reparations for the City of Boston. Byron Rushing is the former Vice President of the House of Deputies Byron Rushing - Wikipedia and the longest serving member of the House of Deputies. Together we’ll walk ½ block to the Black Heritage Trail and the Museum of African American History and begin the tours. The Black Heritage Trail® is an approximately 1.5 mile long trail linking sites that explore the trials of the free black community which inhabited the North Slope of Beacon Hill from the late 18th century through the 19th century. After that we will travel to the Museum of African American History. About the Museum: The Museum of African American History is New England’s largest museum dedicated to preserving, conserving and interpreting the contributions of African Americans. In Boston and Nantucket, the Museum has preserved two historic sites and two Black Heritage Trails® that tell the story of organized Black communities from the Colonial Period through the 19th century. Exhibits, programs, and education activities at the Museum showcase the powerful stories of Black families who worshipped, educated their children, debated the issues of the day, produced great art, organized politically and advanced the cause of freedom.At the conclusion of these two tours, we will get back on the bus and head to Roxbury, another neighborhood in Boston. We will have a late lunch at Slade’s Bar & Grill, the oldest Black restaurant in Boston. **Please note that lunch is self pay**After lunch, we will head back to Meriden where we’ll arrive at about 7:00 to 7:30 p.m.For further information, please contact Valarie Stanley at [email protected]
