Description

In 2022, Rev. Dr. Lawrence M. Cameron, 12th Seated Pastor of The Historical Bethany Union Church of Chicago, inaugurated an Annual Legacy Lecture series that would bring a guest lecturer to Chicago from elsewhere to share and inform the Christian community with a message from "another voice" to highlight and demonstrate the importance of being available to listen to other voices, not necessarily our own, on issues and topics we might not otherwise notice. The Legacy Lecture Series was established to celebrate Bethany Union's 150+ years of championing Religious Education in the community setting here in the Far Southside of Chicago. Pastor Larry is happy to continue the Lecture Series marking Bethany Union's 151st Anniversary in May 2023. The Annual Lecture Series will be held on Saturday, May 6th at 6:00p. The event will begin a musical program of special music directed by our own Minister of Music, David Zizic; guest speaker, Brandee Jasmine Mimitzraiem, will follow, lecturing/preaching on "UnNew Approaches to White Christian Nationalism." Brandee Jasmine Mimitzraiem (she/her/hers) is clergy and scholar. She was ordained an itinerant elder in the African Methodist Episcopal Church in 2003. She holds the Master of Divinity, the Master of Theological Studies (in theology and ethics), and the Master of Philosophy (in theology and philosophy). Brandee Jasmine pastored congregations in Utah, Kansas, and Nebraska. She currently serves as the Director of Institutional Engagement and Public Theology for the Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice. As RCRC's Director of Institutional Engagement and Public Theology, Rev. Brandee Jasmine leads efforts to move outside of strictly-Christian spaces and into reproductive justice (RJ) spaces, incorporating a diverse and multi-faith strategy into our work. Rev. Brandee Jasmine was ordained an itinerant elder in the African Methodist Episcopal Church in 2003 and has pastored congregations in Utah, Kansas, and Nebraska. She prioritizes the well-being within the real-lived experiences of Black Queer women and children, and works to create and sustain safe places across the intersectional realities of race, sexuality, gender expression, and class within the Church and in communities. She has two donor-conceived sons and two dogs (she calls them "models of pastoral leadership"), all of whom keep life full of laughter. Rev. Brandee Jasmine is a proud member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.
