Description

As the weather warms and the buds start to appear, it’s time to get ready for plant sales and for sharing with friends! That means potting up plants from our beloved gardens….and that means cleaning and inspecting our plants to ensure they are pest free. Do you wonder how to be sure the plants you donate or share don’t carry the dreaded jumping worm or bits of goutweed? Please join the UVM Extension Master Gardner Southeast Chapter on Saturday, April 15, 9-11am at the Howard Dean Education Center in Springfield for a workshop by Henry Homeyer on safe practices for preparing plants for transplanting. Henry is a life-long organic gardener from Cornish Flat, NH. He writes a weekly gardening column that appears in 12 newspapers around New England, and has written for the New York Times, the Boston Globe and other newspapers. He is a regular monthly commentator on Vermont Public Radio and is a UNH Master Gardener. He teaches organic gardening workshops throughout New England at garden shows, clubs, nurseries, public gardens and other venues. We will provide the plants, soil and pots for this demonstration, so all you need to bring is your most handy gardening tool. This will be a hands-on demonstration with a Q&A, followed by an interactive talk with Henry about organic gardening in general. Henry is ready to answer all your gardening questions, so take this chance to ask the expert! We’re going to be spending time outside, so dress for the weather. Henry will bring copies of his books and Cobrahead weeders for sale, for those who are interested. You don't have to be a master gardener to join us, but the workshop is eligible for education credits for UVM Extension Master Gardeners and Composters. This workshop is sponsored by the UVM Extension Master Gardener Southeast Chapter, with support from Mascoma Bank.
