West Linn/Wilsonville Parents for Literacy Equity invite you to a free, parent-sponsored viewing of "The Right to Read," a film by Jenny Mackenzie, executive produced by LeVar Burton (of "Reading Rainbow" fame).
"The Right to Read" shares the stories of an NAACP activist, a teacher, and two American families who fight to provide our youngest generation with the most foundational indicator of life-long success: the ability to read. "The Right to Read" is an official selection of the SXSW EDU 2023 Conference & Festival, as well as the 2023 Santa Monica International Film Festival.
Following the film, local literacy experts will engage in a panel discussion and Q&A about how this issue is affecting our children right here in West Linn/Wilsonville.

About West Linn/Wilsonville Parents for Literacy Equity:We are a community of parents, friends and allies who support equal access to literacy. Reading is not innate. Every child must be taught to read. We are advocating for structured literacy instruction in our schools and the adoption of curriculum that supports the 95% of children who have the capacity to learn to read without intensive intervention. We are here to help families connect with each other and create a community of support and awareness for dyslexia and other reading based challenges.
