After holding over 45 authentic African dinners since 2016 with chefs for each dinner coming from over 30 countries in Africa, we have attracted over 900 attendees who have literally turned into a family. One Vibe African Dinner Experiences were first held at Cafe Avole in 2016 and have since then been held at Langston Hughes Performing Arts Institute, Kezira Cafe, and on April 15th we will galvanize our community around sumptuous meals at Rumba Notes Lounge.
This particular One Vibe African Dinner Experiences is made possible by Health Commons Project who were recently selected by the Washington State Department of Health to distribute funds and provide technical assistance (as needed) to community-based organizations (CBOs) that serve the African Diaspora in Washington.
Funds are intended to be used by the CBOs to design, implement, and evaluate outreach & educational campaigns related to COVID-19 and COVID-19 vaccinations. As part of this program, Health Commons Project would like to organize 3 in-person, community-based listening sessions with members of the Diaspora.
Through these listening sessions, Health Commons Project seeks to hear how community members would like to see the funding from this project:
-Invested back into the African community
-Tackle misinformation related to COVID-19
-Improve vaccinations rates for COVID-19 (and/or other immunizations)
-Improve access to community-based healthcare that is culturally and linguistically appropriate
HCP is also interested in hearing from community members on how they would like to stay updated or engaged in the work designed and driven by this project.
Our hope is to take these amazing dinners to other locations, especially historic spaces like Langston Hughes Performing Arts Institute where we will galvanize our community around sumptuous meals.
