Since his days in Hollywood's legendary "Brat Pack" to a decade spent as a National Geographic Traveler editor, Andrew McCarthy has lived a fascinating and well-traveled life.
The '80s teen heartthrob, who starred in such iconic films as Pretty in Pink, St. Elmo's Fire, and Less Than Zero will visit the Ferguson Library in Stamford, Ct. on May 25 to discuss his latest memoir, Walking with Sam.: A Father, Son, And Five Hundred Miles Walking Across Spain.
In his new book, McCarthy reflects his decision to take son Sam on a 5-week, 500-mile trek across Spain's unforgiving Camino de Santiago as his oldest child was preparing to leave the family nest. Their journey forged a more candid and intimate father/son bond as the pair discussed subjects like divorce, the trauma of school, McCarthy's difficult relationship with his own father, Flaming Hot Cheetos and fame.
Presented by the Friends of the Ferguson Library, tickets are $10 for Friends members and $15 for the general public. Seating is limited. Registration is required.
