Understanding the various leave entitlements can often lead employers down a rabbit hole. An increase in litigation related to leaves underscores the need for employers to properly manage leaves of absence. This session will help you grasp the proper uses of leaves; how they interact; employee protections/notices; and how to handle uncertain or indefinite leave situations.

Ann Smith, partner with Atkinson, Andelson, Loya, Ruud & Romo is an experienced litigator who represents management in all aspects of employment litigation. Ms. Smith counsels clients on a variety of employment issues, and frequently drafts employment agreements, personnel policies and compensation plans. Ms. Smith is the Chair of AALRR’s Disability Leave Committee, which meets regularly to discuss disability leave issues, including new cases and pending legislation. Ms. Smith volunteers in the community working with youth, currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Cerritos Chamber of Commerce and is a member of the Women Leadership Committee of the Brea Chamber of Commerce.
