In honor of World Press Freedom Day (May 3, 2023), join PEN Arizona for a panel discussion between journalists from Arizona news outlets and USA Today.
Representatives from print, radio, and television will describe their processes and criteria for determining quality journalism. The panelists will also answer questions from the audience and moderator Danielle Williams, a long-time Valley radio and TV journalist.
Meet some faces behind “the media” and learn more about the news industry during this insightful exchange.
Professional journalists, editors, and fact-based news organizations provide credible reporting and promote informed civic engagement. They stand as a bulwark against the onslaught of disinformation being injected into public discourse. Now, more than ever, trust in our news institutions is vital to informing an increasingly distrustful country.
Doors open at 6 p.m.
Panelists include:
Elvia Diaz, Arizona Republic editorial page editor
Kris Pickel, long-time Channel 3TV and CBS 5 news anchor
Jodie Lau, planning manager at USA Today
Lindsey Riley, assistant news director of radio station KJZZ
Richard Ruelas, Arizona Republic veteran news reporter
