Words can be lost to history, placed under erasure, or arise from political conditions that require new languages to invent new possibilities. From Ancient Greek to O’odham language, Shakespeare’s neologisms to contemporary poetics, we’ll engage with the problem of the concepts and the critical question: “do you have a word for that?” Together, we’ll consider the ways in which thought, feeling, and concepts come together to form ideas at the limits of language available to describe them.
For this panel, we'll hear from: Ruben Espinosa, associate professor of English and associate director of the Arizona Center for Medieval and Renaissance Studies, Michael Tueller, professor of the classics and interim director of the School of International Letters and Cultures, and Stacey Moran, assistant professor of arts, media and engineering and film, media studies and writing in the Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts and the Department of English.
All audience members will receive stickers of their choice from the day’s keywords.
