Description
Student Success Summit Student ShowcaseThis year the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission, The Community and Technical College System of West Virginia, The West Virginia Department of Education, and College for West Virginia are pleased to announce the newest addition to the Student Success Summit: The Student Showcase. The Student Showcase will feature student groups accompanied by their educator sponsor showcasing career readiness programs, projects, and initiatives unique to their school, campus, or community. On the afternoon of July 12th, K12 and postsecondary students will have the privilege to showcase and highlight the work they have done to create a career-ready West Virginia. Light refreshments will be provided during this time. =Additional Information and Frequently Asked QuestionsThe Student Success Summit Showcase is a special exhibit allowing K12 and/or postsecondary student groups and organizations to “showcase” a program, service, class, club, or other activity that promotes career readiness in their schools and communities. The Showcase provides participants the opportunity to share activity ideas and information with educators and the West Virginia workforce. The Showcase will take place July 12th, 2023 at The Charleston Coliseum and Convention Center from 3:00 pm-4:30 pm. However, students and adult sponsors are invited to attend both days of the Student Success Summit. The Summit will feature plenaries and over 60 educational breakout sessions. Applications:Applications will be reviewed and groups will be notified as soon as possible of acceptance. At that point, you will begin to select your student participants and work on your showcase. Once a student group's application has been accepted, each individual will be required to also register for the Student Success Summit. Chaperones and Sponsors Each K-12 school group must have at least one chaperone, preferably an educator, advisor, adminstrator, etc accompany them to the Student Success Summit. This educator will act as a chaperone during the Summit. Chaperones are responsible for their students throughout the entirety of the Summit, during their stay at the hotel, and for their students during any time periods when they are NOT participating in the Student Showcase activities – specifically when moving between the hotel and the convention center, and during the stay at the hotel should your group be staying at the hotel. It is preferred that postsecondary Student Showcase participants also be accompanied by a campus or institution sponsor as well. However, this is not mandatory. Please note that students at all levels are representing their school, campus, and educational communities. Travel and Hotel ArrangementsCounties, schools, institutions, and organizations are responsible for student and educator travel arrangements and hotel accommodations should they need to stay overnight. That information can be found when registering for the Student Success Summit. A light breakfast and lunch are provided during the Student Success Summit. Summit participants are also responsible for parking fees. What should I wear during the Summit?Business casual attire is appropriate for the majority of the event. You are representing not only yourself and your family, but also your school, county, and community. Business casual attire includes clothing such as button-down shirts, polo shirts, khakis/casual pants, blouses, casual dresses or skirts of appropriate length, and slacks. No jeans, shorts, or flip-flops should be worn during the Student Showcase. Will all meals be provided throughout the conference?Breakfast and lunch will be provided as part of the conference registration. Light refreshments will be provided during the Student Showcase. What is the role of the chaperone and sponsor?Prior to the Summit, we ask that you help the students determine and design their table display, submit the application, and act as the coordinating coach of the showcase team. We ask that you act as a chaperone/sponsor for your student during their downtime (i.e., nighttime at the hotel, while moving between the hotel and convention center, etc.) Chaperones will ensure the student’s safe arrival to and from the conference hotel and conference center. Chaperones will serve as on-site emergency contact in the event of a medical emergency or behavioral issue.
