Description

After a couple of months off, we're bringing the WSW Founder Meet Ups BACK! This year we're hosting our unique experiences at recently opened business locations who have applied and been awarded our new WSW Host Grant. Our first winner is Precious Hannah, owner and Chief Creative Officer of Mister OK's Essentials. Check out what we've planned for you. Makers Lab. Vegan Eats. Inspiration. Community. Make Your Own Candle at Mister OK's Essentials in their MAKERS LAB! In celebration of Earth Day 2023’s theme “Invest in Our Planet”, Precious will share a little about herself and the sustainable choices she made when starting her business as well as lead us through her Makers Lab offering. We'll also have plenty of time built-in to visit with the other local business owners attending the meet up. Fresh with inspiration from Precious, you're in for a real immersive experience. Each attendee gets the opportunity to mix curated scents using high quality cruelty-free oils, then pair your signature scent with 100% soy wax and lastly add a wooden wick that is safe to burn around you and the whole family. After your candle sets, give it a name with as much personality as you want and you'll have a beautiful keepsake to take home with you that burns up to 50 hours. Additional delicious smells will be coming from the yummy eats prepared by Chilango PDX, a small, women-owned, family-operated vegan Mexican Food Business owned by Vanessa Arochi. We’ll also learn about how she leads her company in a way that reduces their environmental impact and promotes ethical and sustainable practices. Menu is Vegan + Gluten Free option. This is a $55 unique experience being gifted to the WSW founder community* for $25 a ticket. A portion of the cost has been subsidized by ALIST and paid for in part by our sponsor OnPoint Credit Union and donors of our WSW Community Fund goFundme campaign. *Limit 1 ticket per customer. Space is limited. Ticket sales are nonrefundable. This invitation is for women identifying business owners only. Thank you for your understanding. *************************** BACKGROUND The intent of these meetups are to connect true business owners together so they can strengthen their relationships with others struggling through entrepreneurship. Business ownership isn’t for everyone and the folx attending are a certain subset of our community. We are also treating them to a much needed break, but the conversations center mostly around navigating this journey and knowledge sharing with other women. We don’t want to exclude folx looking for connection, but at the same time we want to hold onto the integrity of what this is. It truly is a rare and important space. If you feel this is you, you are welcome. If you don’t, I invite you to make a donation to the WSW Community Fund goFundme campaign to show your support. April WSW Meet up host is Precious Hannah (she/her). Precious identifies as an African American woman and is the Owner and Chief Creative Designer at Mister OK's Essentials. Known for her multi-disciplinary designs across footwear, accessories, and retail design with ten years of experience working alongside a Fortune 500 company. After studying Product Design in Detroit, Michigan, at College for Creative Studies, she was inspired by functional design. Precious implemented those studies into her design processes, understanding the consumer's needs for solutions prompting the birth of Mister OK's Essentials after having her son. Mister OK's Essentials is a candle therapy company that offers clean, non-toxic candles and products safe for all families. Over the years, Precious has accomplished over nine design patents and has been a part of multiple mentorship programs to help BIPOC designers reach their goals in design. April WSW Meet up caterer and collaborator is Vanessa Arochi (she/her). Vanessa identifies as a Mexican woman and is the owner of Chilango PDX, a small, women-owned, family-operated vegan Mexican food business based in Portland, Oregon. Their mission is to stay true to their roots by researching and developing their products to create the textures and flavors they grew up with but made vegan. At Chilango PDX, we believe in making the world a better place by reducing our environmental impact and promoting ethical and sustainable practices. We're vegan because we care about the planet and all its inhabitants, and we want to make a positive impact by offering delicious plant-based alternatives. We also believe in fairness in the workplace and that everybody deserves a livable wage. Therefore, we are committed to paying our collaborators $20 per hour plus tips, and sharing 30% of our profits every six months. This way, we promote fairness and equality in the workplace and support the livelihoods of our collaborators. We're all about collaboration and creating a community around food. With your support, YOU become part of this project, and TOGETHER, we can make a difference. Menu offered: Vegan + GF option
