Tombstone Cleaning Workshop Long Gone SC is hosting a 2 ½ hour workshop to teach the public how to safely clean and maintain cemetery tombstones. You will learn what techniques and cleaners are safe to use, what not to do when cleaning a tombstone, and some of the important cemetery etiquette and laws involved in tombstone preservation. There will be a classroom portion and a hands-on portion at a local cemetery so come dressed to work. Our instructor will be Sherry Shoars who has 40 years of experience in genealogy, history and researching old cemeteries. Sherry was trained in cemetery preservation by Jonathan Appell of Atlas Preservation and the Cemetery Conservators of United Standards. I acknowledge that this activity may involve a test of a person's physical and mental limits and carries with it the potential for death, serious injury, and property loss.
