This month's speakers: Jim Cavale, CEO of INFLCR and shareholder at Teamworks and Thomas Coiner, founder of Backr
We'll discuss the business behind the sports fan - from student-athlete brand building to building engagement. Leading sports startup leaders will address the business of athletics, the changes to come and the major impact the industry has.
Jim Cavale was a co-founder of Iron Tribe Fitness, launching four gyms in Birmingham before franchising it nationally into more than 40 markets from Seattle to Miami. After selling his share in 2017, Jim founded INFLCR, which has become the leading software in the college athletics industry for athlete brand-building and NIL business management, with more than 3,000 NCAA Division I teams and 100,000 athletes subscribing to INFLCR's technology. In 2019, Jim sold INFLCR to sports technology titan Teamworks, and stayed on as INFLCR's CEO and a shareholder at Teamworks. Jim was recently named Sports Business Journal's Top 40 Underand one ESPN's Top 11 Power Brokers In College Sports.
Thomas Coiner is the founder of Backr - a Gen Z sports app for following athletes over teams. Prior to founding Backr, Thomas was instrumental in building a sports media agency that helped brands like USGA, NCAA, and Hibbett reach their fan engagement goals. After earning his MBA from UAB, Thomas would go on to holding the first marketing role at Landing and would also help launch Techstars Alabama EnergyTech in 2020. Backr is a Techstars backed company headquartered in Birmingham, AL.
