Description

Ramble along paved + gravel paths (former golf cart paths), looking for spring plants at this former golf course, now natural area. Lots to see here and to practice ID skills with. If time allows, we can slip into the forest of the adjacent Salmon-Morgan Creek Natural Area. For an idea of accessibility, please scroll down. After reading, if you have more questions, please reach out!! [email protected] About the walk:We'll amble less than 2 miles along the [mostly] flat trails. There are some bumps due to large tree roots, and a bit of water here and there (depending on which direction we go). There is one large hill, that starts out gentle and gets a bit more steep as you go down (which is usually where I like to pause and check out the myriad plants on the uphill slope!). We will go down at the beginning and back up at the end. Its a moderately steep hill that is fully paved along the way. Recommended clothing:sturdy, firm soled shoes (ideally water resitant/proof)light layersrain coat and/or umbrellaWhat to bring:water bottlecameraPNW plant ID book(s) if you have themnotebook + writing utensilAbout the natural area:Gordy Jolma Natural Area was created in August 2022, and as a former golf course will be an interesting place to watch as nature takes back over. There are no restrooms available and pack it/pack it out guidlines apply. As a natural area, services are very limited. There are restrooms at nearby stores & restaurants you can use as you are coming in or leaving.
