Description

The annual Side by Side Walk: Racial Justice and Harmony walk is the primary event of YWCA Central Virginia's Racial and Social Justice program and is a part of their Until Justice Just Is Campaign (Formerly known as Stand Against Racism). We will celebrate our 25th Annual Walk on Friday, April 28, 2023, from 11:30 am-1:00 pm during the YWCA USA Stand Against Racism Observance Weekend! We will begin with a 10-minute walk Downtown. Afterward, enjoy an informal lunch and a speaker/performer. YWCA Central Virginia is proud to have Ms. Kay B. Rose, singer and songwriter who will discuss her story and passion for music with us. Ms. Kay B. Rose is a former resident of Lynchburg and can't wait to grace us with her perspective and passion as it pertains to music. We are super excited to hear from this leader and extraordinaire! The weekly topics that will be explored during the 2023 YWCA USA's Racial Justice Challenge are: Disability, Housing, Mental Health, and Music. We are excited to dive deeper into the implications of music here within our personal community. "Music has long served as a historically powerful tool for marginalized people to share their lived experiences and inspire change." - YWCA USA. While the event is free, we hope that you will RSVP so we can make sure we have enough refreshments for all! Please also take a few more minutes to let us know about your shirt size here.
