Description

Spend one Sunday coming together with other women of color to heal the body, mind, and spirit. We wear different masks daily to walk among some very chaotic, unjust, and vicious energy in this world. As women of color, we have to navigate this world differently because of our multilayered identities. And sometimes that causes us to wear masks. We may wear masks at our jobs and schools, in front of our partners and spouses, around our family and friends, and sometimes we wear masks when we are out in the general public. Sometimes we wear masks to disassociate from the pain and trauma we may feel inside. And there are moments were we wear masks from our own true authentic identity because it may be easier to wear the mask than face ourselves. A time when we may have lost a connection to our primordial being. These masks are about survival because this world is cutthroat. However, it can also mean not being able to heal in ways that allow us to have courage, strength, and wisdom to find alternative ways to walk in this world without having to look over our backs every time. Additionally, it can mean that we may lose our authentic selves in the process because the mask has become us and we don't know how to let go. "You wear a mask for so long, you forget who you were beneath it." - Alan Moore Traditionally, in many BIPOC communities, masks have been used for spiritual alignment, powerful ceremonies, and ancestral customs. Masks were used to cure illnesses, celebrate life, and to engage with ancestors and God. Masks were often used as ways to represent the duality of our being; our inner, outer, and spiritual selves. It represents your worth, value, social significance, purpose, power, meaning, and identity. This wellness retreat aims to soften the masks we keep so tightly to us and chip away at it to clear space for new masks that show the world unapologetically authentically ourselves with all of the care, community love, kindness, and support included.
