Description
Volunteer at this fabulous community event! GreenTown and its partners, Los Altos High School, Silicon Valley Bicycle Exchange, and Alto Velo Racing Club, are ready to welcome you to volunteer at the 2023 ReCycle Bike Drive! What do we do?We collect gently used bikes that might otherwise gather dust in peoples’ garages (or worse, end up in the landfill). Then with a team of incredible volunteers like YOU, we clean them, make minor repairs, and distribute the bikes to students and others in need in our community. Our partners and local school officials are key to identifying students and others in need and in managing bike placement. What do we need from you? If you know a bit about bikes, or you want to show off your skills washing bikes or filling tires, we need volunteers like you to make this feel-good event happen! Sign up today for a 2-hour shift or more! Oh yeah, LUNCH is provided for all volunteers! About our team:GreenTown Los Altos organizes the annual ReCycle Bike Drive. We adopted it from its founder, Kathleen Santora, in 2012. Kathleen started the bike drive nearly 25 years ago at St. Nicholas School in Los Altos Hills. She saw a need and filled it. We're proud to carry on the tradition! Silicon Valley Bicycle Exchange supports the ReCycle Bike Drive with volunteer skilled labor and lots of support with bicycle placement. The Bicycle Exchange has been doing this since 1993, and has a great track record of training volunteers and identifying recipients for next-to-new bikes that provide low-cost, clean and green transportation. They donate bicycles direct to schools and to a wide range of non-profit organizations serving disadvantaged adults and children throughout our communities. Los Altos High School has been providing the venue, as well as organizational support, enthusiasm and bike storage for the Recyle since 2017. And Alto Velo Raing Club, a new partner, provides outreach support and labor for the ReCycle Bike Drive.
