Description

The Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) student chapter at the University of California, Riverside is proud to present the Bridge the Gap: Education for All Outreach Conference, organized by SHPEtinas. This event aims to fulfill the mission of SHPE and SHPEtinas by providing education and resources to K-12 students and their parents. The conference, spearheaded by SHPEtinas and SHPE Outreach directors, will incorporate the annual Dia de Ciencias, a mission-driven event that seeks to encourage students' interest in higher education. The conference will feature informative tracks for parents, with guest speakers and panel discussions from various UCR departments and student chapters, including the career center, admissions, BCOE, Transfer Transition Center, women's resources, MRS, AICHE, CSP, and SHPE. To ensure accessibility, all workshops will be available in both English and Spanish, with some panels duplicated for each language. Our goal is to provide Education for All and Bridge the Gap by catering to students and parents who speak English or Spanish only. In addition to the tracks for parents, the conference will offer specific tracks for college students to network with industry professionals, receive resume help, and perfect their elevator pitch. UCR club orgs will also have the opportunity to table and share information about their clubs. The event will culminate in a celebration featuring ballet folklorico dancing and music, and all Dia de Ciencias participants will receive awards, while attendees of the conference will receive t-shirts. For the safety and convenience of all attendees, the event will be held at the Bournes Technology Center, with continental breakfast served in the morning and lunch served halfway through the events, starting at 11 AM and ending at 1 PM. We look forward to a successful event and hope to provide valuable education and resources to our community.
