"The ache for home lives in all of us, the safe place where we can go as we are and not be questioned." Maya Angelou
At the heart of this quote is a need that lives within all of us for a place of refuge, a place where we can exhale and just be. And for Black people, this need is amplified! In light of the historic and ongoing impact of racial trauma on our minds, bodies and spirits, having spaces of respite are essential to our healing and thriving. This is an invitation to come, just as you are, into a space filled with love, acceptance and celebration of your inherent worthiness. This is a safe space to release your pain, remember your worth, restore your power and reclaim your joy.
You will have an opportunity to slow down and attune to your heart's needs. Giving ourselves space to pause, rest and be is a generative gift that ushers us back home to our hearts. You will be led through a series of restorative practices which include music, mindfulness, meditation, yoga, soul collage and sound healing. All of the practices offered are heart centered and liberation focused. It is our hope that each attendee leaves feeling seen, spiritually rejuvenated, and reminded of the power and the beauty that lives within each us individually and collectively.
The Homecoming Retreat will be facilitated by Holding Space, a non profit organization in Sacramento. Holding Space seeks to improve the mental health and emotional wellbeing of persons of African descent by providing a wide range of services that are holistic, culturally competent, trauma informed and strength based. This offering is free and open to all persons of African descent.
