The Greater Pittsburgh Business & Professional Women (GPBPW) invite you to join us in our efforts to raise funds for the Linda A Cobb Memorial Scholarship Fund. The scholarship fund was established twenty years ago by GPBPW member, City of Pittsburgh Senior Magistrate, Linda A. Cobb. The purpose of the scholarship is to help women improve their lives through education. We have given over forty scholarships since 2002. The 2nd Annual Commander Gwen Elliott, Empowerment Award*will be presented to the woman who: served her profession, community, or public through servicehas demonstrated a willingness to serve and assist other women in their personal and professional developmentcontributed to the success of womenis a woman leader, who has empowered women to excel in their personal and professional livesinspired other women through her acts of kindness and generosity The 2023 Gwen Elliott Empowerment Honoree is: Christine Haas, Executive Director of the Midwife Center. Forrester at 412-670-4322 *Commander Gwen Elliott was the FIRST African American female commander of the City of Pittsburgh Bureau of Police. Her greatest achievement as a commander involved the struggle to make crimes against women and children priorities in the Pittsburgh Bureau of Ploce She was a mentor, friend, and leader to women in Law Enforcement. Her concern for young women led her to establish Gwen Girls an organization dedicated to empowering girls and young women to have productive lives through holistic, gender-specific programs, education, and experience. 2023 Gwen Elliot EmpowermentAward Honoree Christine Haas, Executive Director of The Midwife Center Ms. Hss has been the Executive Director of the Midwife Center since 2002. Prior to working as Executive Director, she served as a member of the founding board of the organization, after it re-incorporated as an independent non-profit practice in 2002 . She has a Bachelor 's and Master's degree n Sociology, with a concentration in Women's Studies. She has 35 years of experience working with non-profit organizations focused on women's health and advocacy. Ms. Hass has been serving on the board of the American Association of Birth Centers Foundation since 2004.
