Description
The field trip is dependent on the weather. Join JPI down in Cape Coral to photograph the Burrowing Owls. Burrowing Owls are small, sandy-colored owls with bright-yellow eyes. They live underground in burrows they've dug or taken over from a prairie dog, ground squirrel, or tortoise. They live in grasslands, deserts, and other open habitats, hunting mainly insects and rodents. They live there all year round, usually nesting around March. Between April and June, the chicks are born. They soon learn to stick their heads out of their burrows. Hopefully, we will see a few of these on this trip. These fascinating birds are protected by local, state, and federal laws. Harassment of them is strictly forbidden. A burrowing owl viewing etiquette is available for review at the following links. You can increase your workflow in the field when you add a Gimbal. Recommended lenses (You'll need at least an effective 500mm. More would be preferred): Sony FE 200-600mm f/5.6-6.3 G OSSCanon RF 100-500mm f/4.5-7.1L IS USMOlympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 100-400mm f/5-6.3 ISNikonNIKKOR Z 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 VR S with Z Teleconverter TC-1.4xLeica DG Vario-Elmar 100-400mm f/4-6.3 ASPH. Power O.I.S for Micro Four ThirdsSIGMA 150-600mm F5-6.3 DG DN OS for Leica L series and Sony FEYou might ask, "Do I need that kind of lens power?" The answer is yes. A super-telephoto lens will provide much greater access to these magnificent creatures. A standard telephoto lens will require you to crop more and eat away at the pixels. Also, although very good, normal telephotos are not sharp enough to create a crisp image of these tiny creatures.
