Description

The Apprenticeshop welcomes friends and the public to join us for an evening open house where you can learn about our current projects and enjoy some light refreshments!

Members of our Board of Directors, Executive Director, Shop Instructors and Apprentices will be on site to chat about what they’ve been working on and show attendees around our facility. This is a great opportunity for wooden boat enthusiasts, folks interested in traditional craft or those just curious what happens inside of the ’Shop to learn about our techniques and approach. Thursday, April 13th - 5:30-7:30pm 655 Main Street, Rockland, 04841 Some highlights of our current builds include: Skylark: Our 14ft lapstrake sailing dinghy, designed by Paul Gartside, is inspired by lug-rigged ship's boats and some of the older British dinghy classes. Planking of this vessel is nearly complete, and spars are currently being shaped. North Haven Peapod: Uniquely constructed right-side-up and without the use of molds, the method used to build this boat are far different than our typical builds! Based on techniques used by Alton Whitmore of Northaven in the early 1900’s, this is a bit of an experimental archaeology project. Dublin Bay 24: This sleek wooden sailing yacht takes up some space in our shop, sitting at 38ft in length and boasting a beam of 8ft! Being only the second recorded rebuild of this design, new planks, deck, and systems are being built up on top of its original 1939 keel.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- About the Apprenticeshop:
Founded in 1972 by Lance Lee, the Apprenticeshop is a 501c3 non-profit boatbuilding school, dedicated to inspiring personal growth through craftsmanship, community, and traditions of the sea. We offer 12-week, 9-month and 2-year Apprenticeships where participants of all backgrounds can immerse themselves in hands-on learning through the craft of wooden boat building. We envision a world enriched by creative, collaborative, self-reliant, and thoughtful makers who explore and engage with the intersection of traditional craft and contemporary culture.
