This workshop is designed for those interested in gaining an understanding of how to effectively and successfully work with individuals and families who have experienced trauma, and more specifically historical trauma. This workshop specifically focuses utilizing “Trauma-Informed CARE” for addressing historical trauma, manifested in the 8 dimensions of wellness, in African American and BIPOC communities.

Dr. Kevin A. McPherson is the Executive Director of CARE for Change Inc. CARE is a 29-year-old community-based not-for-profit company co-founded by Dr. McPherson in 1993. Dr. McPherson has extensive experience in the not-for-profit leadership/management field as well as the substance abuse/addiction and behavioral health. He has over 35 years of experience in counseling and 29 years of executive leadership. He received his B.A. in Public Administration from the University of Oklahoma, a Master’s Degree in Public Management from the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University (emphasis in Public Management), a Master’s Degree in Human Relations from the University of Oklahoma (emphasis Counseling) and his Ph.D. in Educational Leadership & Policy Studies (emphasis Leadership & Training and Development). Dr. McPherson is also a Licensed Behavioral Health Practitioner (LADC) in the State of Oklahoma.
