The DC Business Gun Violence Prevention Coalition, comprised of the National Association of Minority Contractors—Washington, DC Metropolitan Area Chapter (NAMC-WMAC), Inner Thoughts, Inc., and the DC Concerned Black Business Owners was established in February 2021 to assist Mayor Bowser’s initiative “Building Blocks DC, Gun Violence Prevention Emergency Operations Center” through the DC Office of Gun Violence Prevention designed to decrease gun violence in the City. The Coalition, in partnership with DC Councilmember Janeese Lewis George—Ward 4, is hosting the “Ward 4 Jobs Not Guns Recruitment Fair “ to provide a vehicle for employers, training programs and support services working with community leaders and residents to address and overcome the barriers that employers and District residents face regarding hiring District residents. The purpose of “JOBS NOT GUNS” is to assist in CREATING JOBS!, a win-win for attaining and sustaining employment of District residents that will lead to a systematic decrease in the perpetrators and recipients of gun violence in the Nation’s Capital. Exhibitors include: ➢ Federal, District, National and Local employers, businesses and contractors will provide a list of job openings and conduct individual on-the-spot interviews of applicants for employment; ➢ The Building Trades union will discuss apprenticeship opportunities and how to apply. ➢ District-funded and private job-readiness programs and community organizations will register District residents for social and supportive service programs.
