You are welcome to bring your well behaved children and a cooler with beverages. ———————————————— Before moving back to Dayton, Tim + Aja, owners of the Stillwater River Lodge were in Austin, Texas where they spent most Sunday mornings at an epic little listening room called Strange Brew. This coffee house had perfecto acoustics and was also the home of the weekly event, GOSPEL BRUNCH hosted by Jeff Plankenhorn & the Purgatory Players . This also happened to be where some of the most significant local musicians would join them on stage after their various night before gigs to sing uplifting, soulful, gospel-esque songs while raising money for the local foodbank. The hushed audience experienced musicians interacting organically and celebrating their craft while being thankful and grateful and most likely partaking in a few mimosas and breakfast tacos. The closing of Strange Brew and the departure from Austin left Tim + Aja wanting and hoping for an opportunity to present itself where we could recreate the event in Dayton. Tim + Aja were lucky to catch Jeff on the 1st night of his mid-west tour and on a whim during the post show merch grab mentioned their dream of one day recreating the Gospel Brunch experience in Ohio. Jeff was immediately interested and said yes to stopping in Dayton before the Southgate House and onward on to Texas. Catch Jeff on Sunday, May 7th performing a 90-minute set starting at noon at the Stillwater River Lodge. MORE ABOUT JEFF: Jeff Plankenhorn is a world-class songwriter and had been an accompanist to the stars and first-call session musician in Texas (Joe Ely, Ruthie Foster, Ray Wylie Hubbard, etc.) for 16 years when he decided to go solo with his critically acclaimed SoulSlide album (featuring performances by Ruthie Foster, Malford Milligan, Rami Jaffe (Foo Fighters, The Wallflowers), and The Resentments, with co-writes from Bret Dennen, Gary Nicholson, and Miles Zuniga (Fastball). He's a virtuoso multi-instrumentalist who designed his own signature lap-steel "The Plank" that gained him an Austin Music Award in 2017. As a Black Fret major grant recipient in 2018 and with the release of his second full-length album as a solo artist, Sleeping Dogs (featuring Ray Wylie Hubbard, and Patty Griffin, and co-produced by Scrappy Jud Newcomb). His hard work is paying off and he’s building his audience at festivals and venues all over Canada & the US, building lifelong friends and fans along the way. His current releases are a pair of EP’s Covered/Uncovered Vols.I and II. In 2023, he’ll extend his reach into Europe for the first time since he was on the side of the stage.
