Description

Join us for a fun day of volunteering to celebrate Earth Month! Saxon Woods Park in White Plains, New York is experiencing Beech Leaf Disease which is causing defoliation and the death of beech trees within 2-7 years. In response, Westchester Parks Foundation has launched a tree planting initiative to plant more diverse native trees and has already planted 145 trees and shrubs in affected areas. They plan to continue planting with the help of One Tree Planted and engaging volunteers to prepare the planting area, plant the trees, and maintain them periodically. Meeting Point: Volunteers should enter the park at the main entrance and park in the parking lot. We are asking everyone to meet us at our Westchester Parks Foundation table at the trailhead near the back of that lot, near where the school buses are typically parked. Please remember to: Wear Sturdy closed-toe shoes or boots with good traction. Long pants and long-sleeved shirts to protect your skin from scratches and insect bites. Layers of clothing appropriate for the weather conditions. A hat or cap to protect your head and face from the sun. Bring A reusable water bottle to stay hydrated.
