Attention aviation enthusiasts and history buffs!We would like to invite you to a special event on May 11, 2023, where you can hear the untold stories of Black aviation. This free event will take place from 6:30 pm to 10 pm and promises to be an unforgettable evening of education and inspiration. The family of Herbert Jones, Jr., a pioneer of Black Aviation in the DMV and founder of the first Black-owned charter airline, is giving a presentation and panel discussion about the life of Herbert Jones. Discussion will include his time with the Columbia Air Center in Croom, MD, the first license Black-owned and operated airport in the U.S., which ran from 1940-1957, and the International Air Association, the first Black-owned charter airline, which was based out of DC and Baltimore in the 1970s. This lecture is in preparation for a renovated gallery dedicated to the history of the Columbia Air Center. The evening will kick off with a special tour of the museum at 6:40 pm, followed by the panel discussion at 7:15 pm. Don't miss this rare opportunity to hear the stories of some of the most influential figures in Black aviation and learn about the often-overlooked contributions that they made to the field.
