Thursday, April 20, 2023. 2 CEUs Location: UNLV School Of Dentistry, 1700 W. Charleston Blvd, Bldg D, Las Vegas NV 89102 Course Description: During pregnancy, one’s oral health can affect their overall health as well as the health of the baby. Infections and inflammation in the mouth have been linked to increased risk of preeclampsia, premature birth, and having a baby with a lower than normal birth weight. But did you know that poor oral health status can also impact a one’s ability to conceive? This lecture will explore the emerging research on the role that oral health plays in infertility. Learning Objectives: 1. Understand emerging research on the relationship between poor oral health and infertility. 2. Gain confidence in screening and educating patients on the impact that poor oral health can have on fertility. 3. Review current medications and supplements used to treat infertility and associated dental implications. 4. How to connect patients experiencing infertility with community-based resources. Speaker Biography: Jessica L Woods, MPH, RDH has spent the last two decades as a clinician, speaker, mentor, and public health advocate. She received her Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene from West Coast University and master’s degree in Public Health from A.T. Still University. She received the Outstanding Student Service Award for her contributions to the field of public health during her time as a student. She is also a past President of the Nevada Dental Hygienists’ Association, recognized as an Oral Health Champion, and the recipient of the Nevada Dental Hygienist of the Year Award for advocacy efforts in expanding opportunities for dental hygienists. Currently, she serves as the President for Nevada Fertility Advocates. Additionally, she is the Clinical Affairs Manager at Implant Direct and consults as key expert for public health programs across the country. She is a nationally recognized speaker, staying on the cutting edge of topics ranging from implant dentistry, public health practice, and mental wellness. Most notably, she is an ardent mentor. She has a strong passion for introducing others to the field and supporting them as they grow in the profession. She established the Nevada Public Dental Hygienists Collaborative which offers post-graduate training and a mentorship network to currently practicing and prospective public health dental hygienists and students. Additionally, she has traveled as far as Sri Lanka to provide mentorship, delivering much needed dental care to remote areas of the country and mentoring young women to become dental assistants to help improve their socio-economic status and quality of life.
