Description
Looking for a fun way to celebrate Earth Day? Look no further! Join intertwined nature + forest therapy and Domestic Bones at this outdoor event to celebrate springtime in Iowa and your love for the Earth at Greenwood Park in Des Moines. You will enjoy an immersive, meditative walk through the park with Brandy Case Haub, Certified Guide of Forest Therapy. This is a great time to explore the Clare and Miles Mills Rose Garden and magnificent evergreens that Greenwood Park offers to visitors. After your forest bathing experience, you will enjoy a tea ceremony in the sunshine with Kimberly Dunn-Helm, Owner of Domestic Bones. Kim will share the story of her local Iowa business and will serve up her hot, flakey, lip-smacking savory hand pies. What better way to honor International Earth Day than devoting the afternoon to reconnecting with the natural world on a nature therapy walk, and supporting two women-owned Des Moines businesses that are committed to sustainable practices? We agree– we can’t think of a better way to spend the day either! This event will be held at the much-loved Greenwood Park in Des Moines, right behind the Art Center. After the 2-hour forest therapy walk, we will enjoy a tea ceremony featuring forest tea and delectable savory hand pies from Domestic Bones. Each ticket includes one 2-hour forest bathing experience, tea ceremony with tea, a savory hand pie, and other small bites. More About Forest Bathing: The Japanese practice of Shinrin-Yoku, translated into “forest bathing,” is an evidence-based wellness practice that has been around for decades. Forest bathing boosts immunity, lowers blood pressure and stress hormones, prevents and relieves stress and anxiety, and increases cognitive functioning. Guided forest bathing walks are appropriate for all ages and abilities: less than a ½ mile is covered on each walk. Guides use techniques to support participants in entering a state of embodied awareness, moving through a series of “invitations” to support participants in tuning into each of their senses, allowing participants to move into a liminal space, and experience resulting wellness benefits. Read a little more about the practice here: Forest Bathing Could Be the Key to Feeling Better.
